EEF: Recruiting Schools for EEF funded projects
The EEF and the Research School Network are hard at work on the Accelerator Fund funded projects for RSC regions of the North, East Midlands & Humber and West Midlands (more information here). However, there are also other EEF funded projects that are looking for schools from across the whole country to get involved. You can find details of these projects in the boxes below. Please do feel free to share these opportunities with your networks via your newsletter and social media.
Primary science lessons to think hard: Thinking, Doing, Talking, Science (KS2) The EEF is funding a study focused on testing a Year 5 science programme called ‘Thinking, doing, talking, science’. The programme is designed to improve science outcomes by making science lessons more focused, creative and effective. Teachers are trained to develop and teach challenging lessons that incorporate more practical activities, deeper thinking and discussion, and enquiry-based learning. The study will commence from next academic year (2022/23) and is open to schools across the South West, East and West Midlands, West and Central, North West, and Yorkshire and the North East. If you’re interested in taking part in the project, or wish to signpost others to it, please email TDTS@scienceoxford.com. |
Student Grouping Study (Year 7 and Year 8) The Student Grouping Study team are investigating the effect of setting and mixed attainment (mixed ability) grouping in maths on pupils’ attainment and self-confidence. The team are currently recruiting schools who teach in mixed attainment (mixed ability) maths in Year 7 and Year 8. Pupils grouped in ‘mixed attainment groups’ are grouped so that the range of prior attainment in each teaching group is similar to that of the year group as a whole. Schools may additionally have a ‘nurture group’ for the lowest attaining pupils. The study does not require schools to change what they are currently doing; all schools would continue with their usual grouping and teaching practices for the duration of the study (September 2022 – July 2024). Aside from being an exciting research project, all participating schools receive £1000 following completion of all study requirements with staff/school and with the required pupils. If you are interested or have further questions, please email the study team at ioe.groupingstudents@ucl.ac.uk. |
Bust misconceptions in maths and science: Stop and Think (KS2) The EEF is funding a study in collaboration with the Behavioural Insights Team, which will focus on testing a new maths and science programme called ‘Stop and Think’. The study will run during next academic year (2022-2023). This project is open to schools in all regions across the country. If you’re interested in taking part in the project or wish to signpost others to it, please email stopandthink@bi.team or click here to book in a 15 minute call. |
