New for September 2022 SEND in the Mainstream

Available from September 2022 – Express an Interest now for further information – CLICK HERE

Audience: Teachers

Schools in the hub area have identified a growing need to consider what high quality teaching means for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disability. Leaders have identified how the achievement gap between SEND and Non-SEND pupils continues to grow, especially due to the pandemic. Therefore, leaders express a strong moral imperative to close this gap for a group of pupils who often have the greatest need for excellence. The sessions have been designed around the EEF framework. The sessions will cover:

  1. Creating a positive and supportive environment for SEND pupils
  2. Understanding SEND needs based on the assess, plan, do review cycle
  3. Ensuring and assuring high quality teaching for SEND pupils (1) Focus on flexible grouping and metacognitive strategies for SEND
  4. Ensuring and assuring high quality teaching for SEND pupils (2) Focus on explicit instruction and scaffolding for SEND
  5. How can the use of technology contribute to a high-quality teaching offer for SEND pupils?
  6. What makes effective interventions for SEND pupils?
  7. Effective use of teaching assistants to impact progress in SEND This professional development course fits into the aims within the white paper namely:
  • timely identification of need
  • accurate assessment in all schools of need

An evidence-based response: children who are identified as needing academic, pastoral or specialist support will receive high-quality, evidence-based help

  • identification of where additional support is required
  • where they need additional support.
  • Transparency: parents will be better informed about their child’s progress, and the support their child receives

Terms of Delivery: Late Autumn into Spring

NEW for September 2022 Teaching Excellence

Available from September 2022 – Express an Interest now for further information – CLICK HERE

Audience: Class teachers who want to improve their classroom practice. The course will provide skills and strategies to use within the classroom to facilitate excellent teaching.

The course will enable teachers to reflect and improve their classroom practice through structured session and discussions. Strategies will be provided for teachers against the teaching standards to share and explore great practice within the lessons, backed up by a research base. The sessions will also focus on teacher wellbeing and workload. The sessions to be delivered include:

  1. Excellent Teaching and the Teacher as a professional (focus on wellbeing and workload).
  2. What is High Quality Teaching? What does this mean in your setting?
  3. How does cognitive science enable teachers to ensure there is great learning within our classrooms?
  4. How do we meet the needs of all learners?
  5. Using effective assessment to support learning
  6. Accelerating progress for disadvantaged Pupils
  7. Creating excellent climates for learning

Due to the pandemic, teachers have had little chance to discuss pedagogy and how to improve their practice with an audience wider than their schools. Through our surveys, we know that this is an area of need within or Hub and an opportunity that schools would relish. We would thread workload and well being through all sessions to aim to arm teachers with strategies to keep them within the teaching profession. The link between pupil outcomes and quality teacher development provision is founded in a ‘strong and credible’ evidence base.

Terms of Delivery: Sessions over the academic year – Autumn – Summer
