This programme seeks to explore practical, evidence informed approaches for closing the poverty-related attainment gap. Engaging with the best available evidence on high quality teaching, targeted academic support and school-wide approaches, you will develop and implement a Pupil Premium strategy fit for your setting so that all pupils can flourish.
Throughout the 5 modules you will receive:
● The tools needed to provide an honest and robust self-evaluation of your current provision
● Knowledge and support to help shape a school specific focus for your development
● Strategies to Implement a purposeful Pupil Premium Strategy and evaluate its impact effectively
● Information to make evidence informed decisions about improving teaching and learning
● Support to develop a quality assured framework for Pupil Premium Reviewers

Level 1: Effective Mentoring and Coaching
This introductory programme to mentoring and coaching is aimed at new and aspiring mentors and coaches. The modules are tailor-made for colleagues working in school settings.
Dates: Wednesday 18th January 4-6pm, Thursday 26th January 4-6pm and Wednesday 1st February 4-6pm.
Please note that you must attend all 3 sessions to gain the NASBTT accredited coaching and mentoring certificate.
Level 2: Advanced Mentoring and Coaching
This advanced programme to mentoring and coaching is aimed at those with significant experience of mentoring and coaching colleagues through their career development.
Dates: Thursday 2nd March 4-6pm, Wednesday 8th March 4-6pm and Wednesday 15th March 4-6pm.

This three part modular programme will support teachers to develop their ability to effectively meet the needs of all SEND learners in their classroom, using the 5 Key Recommendations from the EEF’s SEND Support in Mainstream Schools Guidance Report. This programme aims to raise the profile of SEND to ensure it is a key focus for all professionals across all settings, making Every Teacher a Teacher of SEND.
This programme is aimed at mainstream primary and secondary teachers.

Schools in the hub area have identified a growing need to consider what high quality teaching means for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disability. Leaders have identified how the achievement gap between SEND and Non-SEND pupils continues to grow, especially due to the pandemic. Therefore, leaders express a strong moral imperative to close this gap for a group of pupils who often have the greatest need for excellence. The sessions have been designed around the EEF framework. The sessions will cover:
- Creating a positive and supportive environment for SEND pupils
- Understanding SEND needs based on the assess, plan, do review cycle
- Ensuring and assuring high quality teaching for SEND pupils (1) Focus on flexible grouping and metacognitive strategies for SEND
- Ensuring and assuring high quality teaching for SEND pupils (2) Focus on explicit instruction and scaffolding for SEND
- How can the use of technology contribute to a high-quality teaching offer for SEND pupils?
- What makes effective interventions for SEND pupils?

An evidence-based response: children who are identified as needing academic, pastoral or specialist support will receive high-quality, evidence-based help

Coaching for Impact is aimed at teachers who would like to be involved in peer to peer coaching to improve the educational provision within their schools. The schools have identified coaching as a particular improvement strategy in their plans for the next academic years and so therefore are looking at programmes to train key members of staff to enable them to gain coaching skills. The sessions include:
- Why establish a coaching culture? The research benefits and protocols necessary for a successful coaching culture.
- The role of coaching and mentoring for improvement
- Coaching for improvement – skills session 1
- Coaching for improvement – skills session 2
- Collaborative activities and creating a coaching toolkit
- Reflections and next steps for coaching for improvement
Coaching has a strong and credible evidence base. In addition by creating a coaching culture within schools the Hub will continue to contribute to the pipeline of school mentors in school with ECF and ITT reforms.
